Regional Health and Safety Manager - Auckland & Northland
About the role:
40% of all Toll NZ general freight business is based out of Auckland. To ensure our business performance continues to improve, from January 2020 a new state of the art transport centre located in Mangere will be our base of operations and corporate office for one of the largest freight transport hubs in New Zealand.
The role of Regional Health and Safety Manager (Auckland / Northland) has a pivotal part to play in leading and ensuring the safety of more than 350 workers and 400 contractors. Additional to the Auckland Site is a further 120 workers and contractors in rural areas of the Northland Region specialising in transport of petroleum, wood products and general freight.
The role reports directly to the NZ HSE General Manager and is part of a large Global HSE team. You will work closely with all business unit leaders as well as operational teams in our 'Safety Obsessed' programme of work to continue to improve health, safety and environmental performance in line with Toll Global, Divisional and New Zealand HSE strategy. At the core of the Toll HSE Strategy is leadership & culture transformation, compliance and risk assurance, and habits and decision making processes.
You will need to be a passionate person with profound and committed principles to being incident and injury free. You should be keen a student of health and safety, wellness and injury prevention and be able to demonstrate sound understanding of Health & Safety processes and systems.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Be a mentor and coach of others to excel at being managers and worker who care themselves and other through enacting and enabling best practice in safety & operations
- Be a safety professional who conducts inspections, audits, incident investigations & corrective actions
- Be a trusted advisor and leader hazard identification / management in your region
- Be a champion of HSE compliance and ensuring both proactive and reaction branch capability with corrective action processes
- Work with peers and business partner in operational areas of the network and the support the HS&E team on projects and issues as required
- Drive continuous improvement within the business
Skills & Experience:
- Experience in the transport and supply chain industry (preferred)
- Excellent leadership, organisational and people skills
- Strong understanding of operational & commercial drivers
- Good negotiation skills
- Be an influencer & facilitator to ensure behavioural change & ongoing results
