The National Centre for Teaching and Learning provides a range of services and resources to support staff and students. We have a team of highly qualified staff who are available to meet with individuals or academic units to talk about how we can best support teaching and learning requirements.
Our goal is to enable learning and to facilitate this we are pioneering the availability of our services. We now have two positions available for part-time Writing Consultants to deliver face-to-face (by appointment and drop-in) and online advisory services to students requiring assistance with their academic writing.
This is not a proofreading role, but a role to support students to develop the skills they need to achieve success as independent learners.
Experience working with adult learners, both domestic and international, is essential; as is the capacity to work with Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. We are seeking applicants who have exceptional communication skills and are comfortable providing support to students using technology.
To be considered for these fixed term roles you must be available for 20 hours each per week covering 29 weeks of the year.

Job description Purpose statement The Centre for Teaching and Learning provides a range of services and resources to support students. We require a knowledgeable, enthusiastic professional to assist the Centre to achieve its strategic goals for student success.
The purpose of the position is to encourage independent learning and the development of specific academic skills. This is delivered on an individual basis as well as in small and larger groups.
Work in close collaboration with College academic staff and Student Services Teams to improve quality student transition, retention and completion through the provision of learning development services.
Assist and encourage students to develop the academic skills they need to achieve their goals as independent learners.
Responsible to Director, Learning and Teaching
Key accountabilities Advising and assisting individual undergraduate and postgraduate students, both domestic and International, internal and distance, on writing and other skills to support them to achieve success and become independent learners.
Contribute to the pre-reading service by undertaking pre-reading consultant work
Liaising with Centre staff to share observations and provide information regarding student appointments where necessary.
Contributing to other programmes offered by the Centre.
Contribute to the preparation of resource material for students on a range of study skills.
Other tasks as directed by the Director.
Person specification Qualifications A postgraduate degree is essential.
A recognised qualification in teaching English to speakers of other languages is highly desirable
Experience Teaching experience at tertiary level, preferably including postgraduate.
Experience in providing academic learning support for adult students.
Experience in working with both internal and distance students is highly desirable.
Experience in teaching English as a second language effectively to adult learners.
Personal attributes and behaviours A high level of personal and professional integrity.
Excellent communication skills, particularly in writing at a tertiary level.
Empathy with a diverse range of students and an understanding of their learning needs.
Well-developed administration, organisation and time-management skills.
Initiative and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
An understanding of current issues in teaching and learning in higher education.
Willingness to use technology.
