Debt Officer, Debt Management Group (MOJ/1312264)
Full time, permanent position
An opportunity has arisen for a team member to commence employment as a Debt Officer with the Legal Aid Debt team in Wellington.
The role is principally focused on the recovery of Legal Aid debt, but will give the successful applicant the opportunity to obtain insight into the workings of the Courts and the Justice system.
This position would suit a recent law graduate, a person with a relevant degree, or someone with debt collection experience. The role would best fit a person who enjoys dealing with the public in a service delivery role, and has an outgoing personality with the ability to learn quickly.
This is a permanent position. The salary range for the role is: $44,416 - $60,092.
Contacting people in relation to their Legal Aid debt
Ensuring a timely response to queries from debtors
Negotiate win-win solutions with debtors to achieve recovery at the earliest practicable opportunity, in a fair manner having regard to individual's financial circumstances
Work in compliance with the Ministry's policies and procedures
Take appropriate actions to achieve debt recovery: Follow up defaults in payment arrangements; Renegotiate repayment plans; Reassess financial circumstances; Civil enforcement
Write off debt according to legislation and Ministry policy
Settle clients debt
