Westpac’s Risk function is on an exciting journey.  We are expanding our Controls Assurance team to support Westpac’s management of risk and compliance.  We are looking for commercially savvy Controls Assurance experts to join our team and play a key role in the future of Risk Management at Westpac.

 

About the role:

This role will be responsible for planning and executing a progressive integrated operational risk and compliance Assurance Program across Westpac New Zealand Limited. The Program is intended to provide second line assurance to Executive management, the Board and the WBC Group regarding a) the effectiveness of the Business control environment to manage operational and compliance risk and b) the maturity of the risk management practices within the Business.

 

In this role you will: 

Contribute to the second line of defence Risk Assurance program that monitors, measures and reports the performance of the Bank’s operational control environment and business units’ conformance with related risk programs/frameworks.  Proactively identify, evaluate and escalate assurance issues and themes. Assess the materiality of assurance issues and themes. Contribute to demonstrable improvement in risk assurance management in the designated portfolio.


What you’ll need to succeed:

We’re looking for someone who has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders.  You will be tertiary educated, with at least 5 years relevant work experience in a financial services organisation.  Compliance and Operational Risk experience are a given for this role, as are your strong workload planning and time management skills. In addition, we are interested in talking to candidates with the following:

 

·        Demonstrable interest in maintaining relevant professional training (preferred)

·        Compliance and Operational Risk experience. (essential)

·        Strong workload planning and time management skills. (essential)

·        Assurance or audit experience. (essential)

·        Banking or financial services knowledge. (essential at foundation level)

·        Operational risk and compliance knowledge and application. (essential at foundation level)

·        Risk monitoring and controls assurance. (essential at foundation level)

·        Understanding of process operation and ability to analyse and challenge.(essential at foundation level)

·        Process reviews, control assessments (preferred)

·        Experience of working with senior stakeholders (preferred)

·        Numerical analysis (spreadsheets and data) (preferred).

·        Risk optimisation (preferred).
