ABOUT THE ROLE
The role will be to conduct newborn hearing screening for babies within Capital & Coast DHB as part of the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Early Intervention Programme. Babies are screened within the hospital and in the community.
The applicant will either be an experienced qualified Newborn Hearing Screener with a National Certificate in Health, Disability, and Aged Support (Newborn Hearing Screening) or have previous experience in a health or education setting and be keen to gain the qualification.
The screener role spans:
- Identifying babies to be screened
- Obtaining informed consent
- Screening babies according to UNHSEIP protocols
- Communicating results to parents/guardians
- Referring babies to Audiology if required
- Tracking babies to ensure screening is completed
- Collecting and managing screening data.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The successful applicant will have:
- Competence in handling and caring for young babies.
- A full, clean drivers licence.
- Computer skills including data entry.
- Effective time management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work under direction or independently.
- Flexibility and adaptability.
- Ability to demonstrate empathy and initiative.
