The New Zealand Food Safety branch of the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) provides a range of food safety and biosecurity verification and certification to support access of animal products to overseas markets.
This Oamaru establishment is multi-species (sheep and lamb, adult beef and bobby calves). This position is typically on a 5 x 8 roster. This premises processes up to seven days a week on a double shift during the peak season.
You will play a key role working alongside a veterinary colleagues and plant management to ensure offshore market access requirements are meet. While your eye for details is important so is your ability to be a team player and build positive and enduring sector relationships.
You'll be given the opportunity to further develop technical and management skills with a comprehensive in-service training programme which includes interpersonal and communication skills, as these are critical aspects in this position.
Oamaru is the largest town of the Waitaki District. Key Skills / Educational Requirements
- A Qualified and registered Veterinarian
- Knowledge of the principles and practices associated with HACCP, Quality Assurance systems, Risk Management Systems
- Verbal and written skills, verbal and analytical reasoning skills
- Integrity and trust, ethics and values, resilience, adaptability and openness
- Persuading and influencing, team work, planning and organising
- Computer literacy – can operate standard and customised software to an acceptable standard e.g. word-processing, excel, internet, email, database, secure sites, electronic certification, residues etc
- An understanding of basic food technology
