Early Career Analyst Program Description

At the start of the program, you will join the global class of hundreds of Analysts at New York for the initial training where you build your peer network and meet our senior leaders. There will also be opportunities to convene the group during and at the end of the program, providing you with the greatest level of global exposure and peer network.

Your Future Team

In New Zealand, the Group Personal Insurance (GPI) department brings together two distinct parts of the AIG business that generate a sizeable amount of premium annually.

The Personal Accident part of the business provides AIG's clients with insurance protection and related services which respond in the event of injury, sickness or a range of other unforeseen events which can cause loss either at home or overseas.

Group Personal Accident and Business Travel policies are distributed through intermediary partners to a wide variety of organisations with different needs, and Travel insurance is currently distributed through large schemes with airline and bank partners.

The Service Programs part of the business helps AIG's clients enhance their customer proposition by providing extended warranty, accidental damage and other consumer benefits, primarily through business partnerships with multinational manufacturers and major retailers.

The department has significant growth ambition , which will be achieved by revitalising product and distribution, and by re-entering key distribution channels which are presently unserved.

Your Role

You will work closely with all GPI team members and supporting teams to gain insight into the full value chain for each of the products currently offered in market. Support and technical product knowledge will be provided by the NZ team, with opportunities readily available for engagement with experienced regional team members who are based in country. As knowledge base increases involvement will increase from playing a support role to taking a more active lead on assigned tasks.

Initially, specific tasks will include:

Personal Accident
  • Assist with underwriting Group Personal Accident and Business Travel insurance
  • Assist with broker portfolio management, business development
  • Assist with strategic sales development (e.g. with Group PA team, other profit centres and CBE refine target account/ cross selling pipeline)
  • Assist with streamlining PA processes
Service Programs
  • Assist with operational management of major accounts
  • Assist with development of pipeline of Service Programs accounts
  • Assist with streamlining Service Programs processes
Portfolio Underwriting/ Management
  • Assist with monthly and ad-hoc reporting and portfolio tasks
  • Support review of major accounts
Product Development
  • Support all new product development initiatives

Ultimately you will help GPI develop the business by pitching in to existing tasks and allowing more focus on business improvement on implementation of critical projects. You will gain a broad level of exposure to the entire business, develop underwriting capability, sales and marketing skills and also experience with product and process development. A number of the projects include a substantial technology component, so you will gain valuable exposure to business systems while in the role. The breadth of scope of the role will set a strong foundation for career progression in underwriting, product, distribution or operations.

The successful candidate will gain a broad level of exposure to the entire business, develop underwriting capability, sales and marketing skills and also experience with product and process development. A number of the projects include a substantial technology component, so the candidate will gain valuable exposure to business systems while in the role. Job Requirements

To be successful in this role you must be able to work in a fast paced and demanding environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands. You will be energetic, flexible, comfortable with ambiguity and able to problem solve effectively. In addition, the ability to communicate and collaborate with all levels of management, and to build strong working relationships, internal and external to the organization, will also be key to your success.

You will ideally have graduated by July 2018 from ANY degree discipline to commence your role by July 2018. Recent graduates with up to 2 years experience will also be considered.
